Significant Words

He could have read something else. He had options. When they handed Him the scroll of Isaiah He had the opportunity to choose from thousands of words. But these are the words He chose, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." (Luke 4:18 and 19)

Just a few simple sentences, chosen by the Son of God, spoken in a Jewish synagogue, intended to reveal the focus and purpose of the One who would willingly be nailed to Golgotha’s cross.

The poor, the prisoners, the blind, the oppressed; these are the ones that Jesus came seeking and searching for.

Let me cut right to the chase and make plain my point: If we call Him our Master and Teacher, then we also should spend our lives seeking to reach the poor, the prisoners, the blind, and the oppressed.

The focus of Jesus’ life and ministry should be the focus of our lives and ministry.
Those He came for should be the ones we search for.

Yes, He could have read something else. He had options. So, because He read what He did, we should make every effort to do as He did.
