I Do Not Burn the Bacon

LISTEN TO AUDIO

What displays a person as a masterful chef; the fact that they DO NOT burn the bacon or the fact that they DO create delicious and attractive meals?
What displays a person as a competent writer; the fact that they DO NOT make spelling mistakes and grammatical errors or the fact that they DO weave together words and ideas enjoyable to read?

I would suggest that the vocation of an individual is more defined by what that person does than what that person does not.

What displays the fact that you are a true follower of Christ; the fact that you DO NOT do drugs, cuss, or steal or the fact that you DO acts of justice, mercy and love?

2 Tim 2:22b says this, “…Pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.”

As believers we are not called to simply run a way FROM harmful things but to run TOWARD life’s most important things. Our Christianity should not be defined by what we DO NOT do, but instead by what we DO. Our faith should be demonstrated by what we embrace more than by what we avoid.

So let’s quit playing defense and start playing offense. Let’s not just run away from things, let’s run towards good works for the glory of God. You are not a Christ follower because you DO NOT burn the bacon. You are a Christ follower because you DO righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace – and you do it a lot.
