Rearview Request

LISTEN TO AUDIO

Driving my son to school, looking at him in the rearview mirror, “All I ask is that you do your best” I say, meaning it. I can’t ask for more than that. Work hard. Do the best you can. It’s what parents ask of their children. It’s what God asks of us.

2 Tim 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (NIV)

Do your best. Work hard. Understand that there are such things in life as approval and disapproval. Just showing up is rarely enough; teachers want more than that, bosses expect more than that, God requires more than just being present for roll call. Yes, we are saved by grace through faith. That’s true. Congratulations. Now let us get busy, because it is possible to stand before God and be ashamed at our lack of effort and absence of diligence.

What has Jesus called you to do? Do it with all your heart. Work hard to learn God’s word so that you can correctly apply it to your life and ministry to Christ.

God is more than fair and will not require from us what we do not have to give or what we are not able to do. But while driving us to our lives each day He will look at us in the rearview mirror and say, “All I ask is that you do your best”. And He means it.
