Two political enemies are seated at a table, one speaks only Italian, the other speaks only French. If they are going to communicate, and work out their differences, they need someone who can bridge the social and language gap between them. They need someone who not only speaks both Italian and French, but also someone who can empathize with the position of both parties involved and therefore passionately plead each side’s case. They don’t just need an interpreter; they need a mediator.

1 Tim 2:5 “For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.”

Two spiritual enemies were separated by a chasm. One spoke only words of humanity and death, the other spoke only words of holiness and life. One was completely wrong in his position and viewpoint. The other was completely righteous and just in all his dealings. The two enemies needed someone who was not only able to passionately plead each side’s case but was also able to act as a bridge across the chasm of separation and provide a way for reconciliation and relationship.

The Man Christ Jesus is that Bridge. He is the mediator between God and man. He is the Son of God and therefore speaks words of holiness and life. He is the Son of Man and therefore understands humanity and death. He was, and is, completely righteous in all His dealings but also dwelt among those who were completely wrong in all of theirs. Christ Jesus did not bring about reconciliation through his language skills or political savvy but instead gave his life as a sacrifice to remove the very issue that separated humanity from the King of Heaven; sin. By taking upon himself the punishment for the sins of the world, Jesus removed the barrier, and bridged the great divide of separation, between God and humanity.

I beg you today. Make sure that you walk across that bridge.
